International Mother Tongue Day (21st February)

This is one of the more unusual celebrations in the world where people all over celebrate their mother tongue.  I’m not sure if Ireland does much for this day but we could make a start if we want to save the Irish language from demise.  Every year there is a theme, for example, in 2005, it was Braille and Sign Languages.  Mother tongues might be an interesting topic to cover with senior classes.  I wonder how many different mother tongues can be represented in your own class?
