Benjamin Franklin is credited with the famous kite experiment which showed how lightning was electric. Kites have been flown for centuries in the East. Fly a Kite Day is celebrated on 15th June every year. The Kite Runner might be an interesting film to show to an older class as a stimulus for this theme.
