On September 3rd, 1976, the Viking II spacecraft landed on Mars and spend the next few years sending images of the planet to Earth. The planet Mars has always fascinated people and many believed that due to its position in the Solar System that it has or had life on it. It is nicknamed the Red Planet, due to its colour.
