Sellotape (27th May)

Sellotape is actually a company but it is by far the most common name for “sticky-backed plastic” or Scotch tape. Invented in 1925 by 3M (who are more famous for their projectors these days), it was originally masking tape rather than Sellotape that was intended to be designed. Because masking tape wasn’t sticky enough, 3M made the glue stickier and Scotch tape was born. Sellotape is probably a weird theme to do with a class but even this story can evoke some decent ideas for lesson plans, e.g. inventions by accident.
